Go!
Sam O’DonnellAcrylic on canvas
Go! captures a moment of lightness within a scene of domestic life. The artist, driving his daughter home from nursery, sat unusually in the front seat, as the back of the car was filled with timber that later became the stretcher for this painting. The painting holds the moment of O’Donnell’s daughter dancing along to the song “Go!” by Public Service Broadcasting. Moments of painterly abstraction are combined with recognisable elements, and the unusual yellow and purple colour palette and wide-angle viewpoint lends the painting a dreamlike feel. This depiction of time spent in a car is not focused on speed, but the energy of experience and playfulness of an everyday task.
